Prestigious Sussex Heritage Award Winner - Again East Sussex based company GM Moore & Associates was celebrating after winning a 1st Prize and a Highly Commended Certificate in the prestigious Sussex Heritage Awards 2001. These latest awards to GM Moore & Associates brings the number of awards won by the Company to four over the four years that the competition has been held. Glenn Moore said today, "This year we entered two projects - Ranscombe Farm Holiday Cottages at Beddingham near Lewes and The Bull Inn at Newick where we converted a disused barn into eight bed and breakfast rooms now known as The Pilgrims Rest. We were absolutely delighted when we won 1st Prize in the Commercial & Industrial Award section (sponsored by Harvey & Sons of Lewes) and were then awarded a Highly Commended certificate for The Bull Inn." The awards were presented by The Earl of Limerick, Patron and Non Executive Director of Sussex Heritage Trust at a luncheon attended by 200 people at The Old Market in Hove on Wednesday, 10th July. "It was a great day," said Glenn Moore, "It's always gratifying to win awards especially in a competition such as this." The Sussex Heritage Awards recognise the achievements of architects, developers, builders, craftsmen and individuals in bringing new life to redundant buildings or landscapes across East and West Sussex. The holiday cottages at Ranscombe Farm are owned by Mr and Mrs Philip Norris and were built on the site of a disused barn. Completed at Easter, they have been let ever since and many holiday makers are already making repeat bookings, entranced by the location at the foot of the Downs and the traditional design which blends in so well with the other buildings -using flints from the farm itself. The judges said, "This is an excellent new build scheme, very much in keeping and very well thought out ." Mrs Rosemary Norris was equally delighted "This was a tremendous thrill for us, the culmination of twelve months of very hard work by the whole family to get the cottages completed. The cottages fit in so well with the rest of the farm and we could not believe it when we won 1st prize! Glenn has done a terrific job." Howard and Marisa Ramsey of The Bull Inn at Newick were also very pleased to receive a Highly Commended Certificate. for the conversion of their disused barn which they placed in the care of Glenn Moore. The converted building now provides very popular accommodation along the Pilgrims Way (also known as the A272), making a successful feature from a non-productive area of the pub. Opened by Baroness Cumberlege last year the rooms have provided comfortable rest for many a weary pilgrim ever since. The final word went to Glenn Moore, who has been working on similar projects since 1985;"Winning recognition in these awards is very important. It shows that the efforts we make to work closely with our clients and Local Authorities to achieve useful but appropriate results are all worthwhile. 90% of our work is in 'heritage' projects - many of them listed buildings. I believe that if there is no change - there is no history; buildings previously thought to be redundant can be given new life, and be made viable. Surely that is a better option than dereliction and decay." Member of the
